Defense and Military

The defense of our nation, its peoples and its resources ultimately falls to the U.S. military. However, the first line of defense doesn’t come from the military itself. Building strong bonds with other countries may lay a good foundation; having an advanced and well-equipped intelligence community might avert a potential situation; and, maintaining strong and effective security measures could prevent a threat to the country. These are just some of the ways the U.S. government commits to protecting its citizenry.

In times of crisis, such as natural and manmade disasters, the people and the state and local governments look for the help and manpower of the military and its resources. The National Guard is called in during those times of trouble.

When there are conflicts with other nations, the personnel of the armed forces: Navy, Army, Marines and Air Force step in to resolve the conflict.

The Coast Guard, as well as the Border Patrol and the watchful eyes of those who work in our homeland defense programs, protect our waterways and maintain our borders.

After they have served their country well, retired and no-longer active military personnel can come home to the veteran benefits that the U.S. government offers to those who have committed to duty.
