Overview

Protecting the natural resources of the United States and providing its people with safe sources of food and energy is a role of the U.S. government and its agencies.

The Department of Energy (DOE) encompasses support of these goals with its Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM), Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), Office of Environmental Management (EM) and Office of Health, Safety and Security (HSS).

Its main goals are to: promote energy security; ensure nuclear security; advance scientific discovery and innovation; protect the environment; and, manage energy resources. It also publishes consumer tips on ways to save energy and recycle.

America's farming and agriculture's regulations fall under the watchful eyes of the Department of Agriculture (USDA). Within this department is included: the Animal and Plant Inspection Service (APHIS); the Forest Service (FS); and, the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Its strategic plan calls for the execution of these main goals: enhancing the safety of food; providing financing for the betterment of rural communities; expanding markets for agriculture products; support of the international economic development; improving nutrition and health through education; and, managing and protecting the country's public and private lands by working with other government agencies and the private sector.
