Public Safety and Law

The U.S. government is cognizant that maintaining the security of its people takes priority over all else. This entails protecting the nation’s borders and preserving peace from within. It’s a monumental task that requires more than just military strength.

The Department of Homeland Security, which spawned as a consequence to the September 11th attacks in 2001, plays a huge role in defending the nation. It coordinates information from the CIA, FBI and local law enforcement officials. This information is then used to protect against terrorist attacks, upgrade border security and to orchestrate recovery efforts following natural disasters in the forms of hurricanes, floods, tornados and earthquakes.

On a more local level, state governments, with the help of federal officials, protect individuals from everything from theft and sexual abuse to consumer fraud and child exploitation.

This, in turn, then leads to the court system, which upholds the laws designed to ensure peace and protection. The U.S. Department of Justice provides a step-by-step breakdown on the entire court process, beginning with prosecution and pretrial services and concluding with sentencing and sanctions.

The government also protects the nation’s health through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This all-everything agency guards against flu epidemics, bioterrorism, animal-borne diseases and much more.
